Artist Background
The duo consisting of Atlanta rapper Killer Mike, and legendary underground produceMC El-P, known together as Run The Jewels, originally came together as a result of Adult Swim executive Jason DeMarco who introduced the two in 2011. After his 2011 album PL3DGE peaked at #115 on the US charts, Killer Mike told Jason that he wanted to make his own AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted. Jason informed Mike, “If you want AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted modernized, the only producer I know who comes close to the Bomb Squad-level of production is El-P”. The duo’s chemistry was immediate, as El-P went on to produce all of Killer Mike’s 2012 last solo album R.A.P. Music, and Mike featured on El-P’s final solo album Cancer 4 Cure. Mike and El’s respective albums released within a week of each other in May 2012, and the two embarked on a twenty-city US tour in the following months. After returning from tour, the pair had found a friendship growing between themselves, and made the decision to put other projects on hold and focus on the chemistry that had been sparked. Recording at an upstate NY studio beginning in April 2013, the duo re-appropriated the phrase “Run The Jewels” from the LL Cool J track “Cheesy Rat Blues", and released their self-titled collaborative album, for free via digital download, only a mere 2 months later in June 2013.
36” Chain vs. Pistol & Fist
Run The Jewels discography currently exists in a distinct pairing. With Run The Jewels as their debut, this record set the group's tone as a light-hearted, braggadocious duo with as much confidence in their abilities as swag in their punchlines. Just over a year later, the sequel Run The Jewels 2 took the foundation set from their freshman effort and dialed the insanity up to 11. RTJ2 pushed the boundaries of their aggression and flows to new heights; with incredible energy in their verses, and absolutely impeccable beats, blending El-P’s signature industrial sound with sharp synth arpeggios, chopped Zach De La Rocha vocals, and absolutely bonkers Travis Barker drums.
It was then nearly 3 years before Jamie and Mike followed up their breakout RTJ2, with Run The Jewels 3 being released again ahead of its scheduled release date via free digital download, this time on Christmas Eve 2016. Instead of these two attempting to outdo the pure insanity and in-your-face attitude found in their predecessor, Mike and El decide to evolve themselves as a group. The duo had noticeably pulled back on the swag and dick jokes which made such a splash on RTJ2, instead choosing a more subdued, electronic approach to their beats, as well as a clearly stronger political approach in their lyrics. This change in sound and style is demonstrated in the album cover’s artwork. The first two records featured the distinctive RTJ “Pistol and Fist”, with the fist tightly gripping a chain. The chain, in my opinion, represents the swag and braggadocio that drove the aggressive nature of their first two albums. In RTJ3 the chain is removed, leaving only hands that have transformed from bleeding and bandaged, to a pristine gold.
This brings us to early 2020. It’s been nearly 4 years of living in a post-Trump America, and El-P announces that Run The Jewels fourth record has been completed. Mike and El live-stream the first single “yankee and the brave” on Instagram on March 22nd, 2020. Lyrically and sonically, RTJ4 exists as the successor to Run The Jewels 3, with Mike and El again taking the good from their previous effort and launching it into the creative stratosphere. El-P’s beats are again leaning towards the synthetic, electronic side, this time with the intensity dialed all the way up to 11. From a lyrical perspective, RTJ takes the politically-charged lyrics from their predecessor, and again, up the ante, laying down some of the hardest hitting and politically poignant bars either of these two have ever spit.
Album Review
2020 was a year that none of us will soon forget. An unprecedented global health crisis kept the majority of us inside for months at a time. RTJ4 was announced on May 12th, 2020, with a release date slated for June 5th, 2020. However, with 2020 as the gift that won’t stop giving, the end of May was highlighted by the unjust killing of George Floyd. The phrase heard around the world, “I can’t breathe” instantly became a rally-cry for the oppressed to finally take to the streets to demand systemic police reform, as Floyd’s death was not the first time this phrase was uttered in an unjust police killing. In fact, a 2020 study by the New York Times showed that at least 70 people have died in police custody after using the same phrase over the past decade. As millions of American’s began organizing protests and demonstrations in the wake of Floyd’s death, Run The Jewels made the decision to release their latest chapter two days ahead of the scheduled release. El-P tweeted, just minutes ahead of the drop, “Fuck it, why wait. The world is infested with bullshit, so here’s something raw to listen to while you deal with it all. We hope it brings you some joy. Stay safe and hopeful out there and thank you for giving 2 friends the chance to be heard and do what they love”. In line with all past Run The Jewels releases, the album was made available for free digital download, two days ahead of its scheduled release date, on June 3rd, 2020.
THE RETURN (we don’t mean no harm but we truly mean all the disrespect)
RTJ4 opens with the first single, “yankee and the brave (ep. 4)”. Using the team names from their respective hometown baseball teams, Mike and El use the opening track to prove that they’re not just a hip-hop duo, they’re brothers, for better or worse. El-P kicks this installment off with rapid-fire, machine-gun esque snares, matching Killer Mike’s aggressive flow and tightly packed rhymes, before El jumps in to trade some dense rhymes as well. Mike and El depict themselves as outlaws, with Mike surrounded by cops with only one bullet remaining. He contemplates suicide instead of allowing the police to take him alive, until El-P jumps back in, offering Mike a way out, with a getaway car waiting outside. This tense situation is depicted lightheartedly in this song’s music video, which was released via Adult Swim and features the duo animated.
The trade-off between Mike and El’s short verses are reminiscent of late-80’s EPMD flows, while the production sounds like boom-bap that’s been sent to us from the future. This distinctive blend of old-school rap roots and forward thinking production is what continues to separate Run The Jewels from absolutely all of their contemporaries. While so many artists are continually playing catch-up with the latest trends, RTJ are side-stepping the trendy and moving forward with the mind-bending.
FLEXIN’ (ayo one for mayhem, two for mischief)
The second single “ooh la la” samples a Gang Star track "DWYCK (feat. Nice & Smooth)" as the basis for the chorus. I say “samples” as that’s how it is credited in the album’s liner notes, however it’s truly an interpolation of Greg Nice’s bar, slowed down slightly, and sung by El-P and Greg Nice himself. El-P is a true old-head at heart, and it’s abundantly obvious in his work, even going as far as to recruit legendary producer DJ Premiere to handle the scratching on the back end of this banger.
Out of key piano chords are looped to quickly create an unsettling aura surrounding the track, before El-P’s voice cuts through the infectious piano like a whip. Pounding, up-tempo drums are introduced after the chorus’ first iteration, creating what is possibly El-P’s first danceable beat. Lyrically, Mike and El-P initially seem scattered on this track, however the music video quickly makes their point very obvious.
”we imagined the world on the day that the age old struggle of class was finally over. a day that humanity, empathy and community were victorious over the forces that would separate us based on arbitrary systems created by man.
this video is a fantasy of waking up on a day that there is no monetary system, no dividing line, no false construct to tell our fellow man that they are less or more than anyone else. not that people are without but that the whole meaning of money has vanished. that we have somehow solved our self created caste system and can now start fresh with love, hope and celebration. its a dream of humanity’s V-DAY… and the party we know would pop off.”
The video envisions a society celebrating the fact that the class system we currently exist within has finally imploded. Money is worthless, and we have rejected the desire to bind ourselves to the constraints of capitalism. All creeds and colors unite to burn the system that has so effectively controlled us for over a century. It’s a party, and if there was a song to celebrate the end of the world as it is currently known, “ooh la la” is that song.
Mike’s last verse features a few metaphors and comparisons celebrating the destruction of capitalism, saving the most poignant for last:
I used to love Bruce, but livin' my vida loca
Helped me understand I'm probably more of a Joker
When we usher in chaos, just know that we did it smiling
Cannibals on this island, inmates run the asylum
Premo’s expertly cut scratches lead us into the equally hard hitting sample flip of “Misdemeanor”, by Foster Stevens as the basis for the beat to “out of sight”. Lending yet another nod to the old-school greats that laid the foundation for RTJ, “out of sight” samples the same track as The D.O.C.’s “It’s Funky Enough”, only adding a bouncy, electronic synth atop the inverted chord hits, and uptempo, industrial drums, to create an absolutely infectious groove for Mike and El’s dynamic chemistry to shine, rapidly jumping between each other’s two line flows in the first verse.
“out of sight” shows each MC providing insight into how each of them earned a living and achieved their current status. Mike and El’s opening verse each details themselves robbing people in order to eat. El alludes to the fact that he crossed his accomplices in crime for the whole bag, while Mike details the fact his assailant tells him it’s an “honor” to be robbed by his mother’s only son.
While El-P’s production is the obvious stand out on first listen, Killer Mike comes through with one of the most sonically pleasing and technically proficient verses of 2020.
We the motivating, devastating, captivating
Ghost and Rae relating product of the fuckin' '80s
Coke dealin' babies, never regulating, bag accumulating
It would not be overstating to say they are underrating
The pride of Brooklyn and the Grady, baby
We don't need no compliments or confidence
Our attitude and latitude is "fuck you, pay me"
The dense, intricate rhyme schemes smack you in the face, almost distracting you from Mike’s delivery and blistering flow on the verse; flexing his legendary status while paying homage to his drug-dealing past. This absolutely stunning display of technical skill, story telling, and complex rhyming illustrates how RTJ seamlessly integrates the best of both old school and new school hip-hop.
“out of sight” also features a guest verse from 2 Chainz, and he continues to lay the braggadocio on thick. Considering Tity Boi’s dedication to trap stylings, his verse feels right at home on the flex track, despite it’s late 80’s tribute sample, a considerable departure from his usual sound palette.
Up until this point, I haven’t mentioned any of the El-P’s lyrics specifically. El-P is a great rapper, but Killer Mike… Well, Killer Mike is an incredible rapper. He’s the guy who draws you in. El-P is the one who lays the foundation for greatness and Mike is the show stopper, and that’s generally the case for most RTJ tracks. But on “holy calamafuck”, El-P seems determined to make people stop and ask, “Who the fuck is this?!”.
A sharp, yet nearly minimalistic drum kit backing a heavily distorted synthesizer melody lays beneath rhymically knocking cow-bells. This aggressively set stage allows Mike and El to flex as the dynamic duo they are, until the beat suddenly takes a turn for the chaotic. A gnarled, ultra-menacing synth overtakes everything while Mike screams into the abyss, until a distorted snare, enormous 808s, and skeletal hi-hats cut through and launch the beat switch into another dimension. The minimal, yet incredibly dark soundscape allows El-P to snap in a way I have never heard from him previously. His rhymes schemes are reminiscent of an old MF DOOM lyric notebook, while his topics flawlessly combine flexing, psychedelic use, and his well-cemented legacy in the hip-hop community. Cutting and pasting a few of his bars into this review could not convey a fraction of how stunning El-P’s performance on “holy calamafuck” is.
Slightly later in the track list, making liberal use of the Ether song “Gang of Four”, “the ground below” samples and loops the sharp guitar riff and adds aggressive, pounding drums as the basis for the beat; this is finally reminiscent of the forward-thinking, stridulous production El-P has built his reputation on. Capitalising on the classic RTJ moment, Mike and El both flex in their own unique ways. Mike compares himself to Godzilla taking on Tokyo, and El-P demands respect for his name as the legend he is, threatening to smack dying children for mispronouncing his name with his middle finger to the world; his complete disregard for human life and confidence in his abilities are summed up at the end of his verse.
You see a future where Run the Jewels ain’t the shit
Cancel my Hitler-killing trip
Turn the time machine back around a century
SO¢IAL JU$T-ICE (until my voice go from a shriek to whisper...)
While the first few tracks aren’t without their social and political themes, the back-end of RTJ4 is where Mike and El start to bust out the heavy topics. “goonies vs. E.T.”. starts off light, with El-P pointing to the irony of how once he finally started to make it “big” in the industry, the world began to descend into chaos due to climate changes, increasingly obvious social injustice, and political madness. He culminates his frustration with our disregard for the Earth with a fantastic quotable.
Fuck y’all got, another planet on stash?
Far from the fact of the flames and our trash
That is not snow, it is ash, and you gotta know
The past got a wrath, it’s a lover gone mad
Mike’s verse takes the light-hearted frustration expressed by El-P, and turns the aggression to the next level. Aiming his sights against the ruling class and their society that’s been designed to oppress people for profit, who have very meticulously painted themselves as celebrities and idols to the American public. Mike accepts that he will be villainized by these people for speaking against them, but he welcomes the nefarious role, knowing that the working class will eventually eat the rich, no matter how much they are stomped into the dirt.
And this is just the warmup.
If it’s possible for a song to represent a moment in time that captures the absolute shit storm that has been 2020, “walking in the snow” is that song. It’s release coincided perfectly with the protests for George Floyd which were sweeping the nation. Killer Mike’s verse directly references the phrase “I can’t breathe”, the last words of Eric Garner, which also happened to be the last words of Floyd as well. The fact that this verse was reportedly written in November 2019 perpetually underscores the importance of the content and perfectly represents how persistent this problem is. “walking in the snow” is a true encapsulation of both a defining moment in time and an ever-persisting issue.
But he doesn’t just stop at the racial injustice. Mike goes on an absolute rant about the American education system; how it’s not designed to teach people, but to discriminate against poor populations, limiting their legitimate opportunities, and therefore disproportionately leading them into a criminal lifestyle. He calls out the media as fear-mongers, and the apathy of the American public in the face of indecency. Fortunately for Mike, by the time we finally had the chance to hear this masterpiece, we were already on our feet, using this album as a war cry to mobilize against a tyrannical government that militarized against its own citizens simply for asking that we recognize systemic racism and demanding change. Killer Mike has the best verse of the year, no doubt in my mind.
The only drawback is that Mike’s verse is so fucking good that it completely overshadows El-P’s, which is also amazing. A menacing guitar riff and haunting synths kick the track off into a bouncy groove, where El-P unleashes a flurry of internal rhymes that does not relent for about half his verse. Even adding layers of social commentary within the densely packed bars, El refuses to quit and continues on his political tirade; criticizing ICE’s detainment center practices and the “pseudo-Christians” who support them, with a bar that now lives in my head:
Pseudo-Christians, y’all indifferent, kids in prison ain’t a sin? Shit
if even one scrap of what Jesus taught connected you’d feel different
what a disingenuous way to piss away existence, I don’t get it
I’d say you lost your goddamn minds if y’all possessed one to begin with
The combination of two of the best verses spit by any rapper(s) this year and production help from El-P and long time RTJ collaborator Little Shalimar, create a bouncy, aggressive, deeply truthful banger. “walking in the snow” not only encapsulates the crux of 2020 with lyrics that will become more powerful as they age, but will also forever be associated with the Black Lives Matter movement and the determination to expose continuing racial and societal injustices.
The sonic palette of RTJ4 holds an extremely unique place in El-P’s discography. Jamie is the definition of a self-made 90’s hip-hop legend. This is the dude who put New York underground hip-hop on the map with Company Flow, and he did it with his unique flavor of dark, noisy, dense, boom-bap. Whether he was doing it with the help of Rawkus, or completely independently during his Definitive Jux run, El-P has never made music with the intention of becoming famous. Funcrusher Plus, Fantastic Damage,I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead, and Cancer 4 Cure are all highly revered as industrial, technical, abrasive, and completely unsuitable for the radio or a party. The fact that three songs on RTJ4 could easily be heard on the radio, at a party, or in a TV series credits scene is frankly, astounding. In a 2002 interview/documentary on El-P’s budding record label Def Jux, he stated that his friend bet him $500 that he could not make a beat that was “happy”. At the time of the interview, El-P said that he had not won that bet yet. While I might not qualify the beats on RTJ4 as “happy”, if you showed El-P the beat for “JU$T” in 2002, I believe he might have won that bet.
Pharell opens “JU$T” with the pre-chorus, spitting varied examples of how we’re all slaves to our current system throughout the track, over echoing snares and bouncy 808s before bright synth chords and up-tempo hi-hats burst in while Killer Mike delivers the chorus, pointing to the fact that the majority of the people featured on American currency owned slaves at one point in their lives. Mike’s verse touches on the fact that he has committed crimes to get where they are today. Mike is publicly open about his past as a drug dealer. So why is he a criminal, but Benjamin Franklin isn’t? These are the people who built our country, and they built it on the backs of slaves. He illustrates this theme with a more recent examples:
You believe corporations runnin marijuana? Ooh (how that happen?)
and your country gettin ran by a casino owner (ooh)
pedophiles sponsor all these fuckin’ racist bastards (they do)
When corporations are able to sell cannabis legally, but the government continually incarcerates people who trap, our president is a notoriously fraudulent businessman, and the people who helped put him in power run a pedophile ring, yet none of them face consequences and are allowed to continue to profit and remain in power while people suffer; well, we might be closer to slaves than previously imagined.
Rage Against The Machine frontman Zach de la Rocha also makes his mandatory feature appearance at the end of “JU$T”. As the only artist to feature on three Run The Jewels albums, Zach is essentially an unofficial member of the group at this point. His fiery verse is spit with the same “Rage” energy that set him apart in the mid-90’s, ending the track questioning his place in a capitalist society as a recipe for his inevitable demise, since his “breath”, or art, as his weapon to express himself is still being exploited for other’s profit.
Continuing with RTJ4’s heavily synthetic sonic palette, “never look back” features wavering synth leads resting above the slow-jams snappy snares and thumping bass, while a haunting voice echoes in the background. This unsettling aura provides additional gravity for Jamie and Mike to continue self-reflecting on defining moments in their childhood, and as well as how far they’ve come from those moments. Mike and El are both self-made men, and while they have a certain fondness for those gritty moments that defined them, moving forward in life is undoubtedly more important.
Skeletal drums reminiscent of a slowly pounding heart opens “pulling the pin”, before rhythmic hi-hats and textured, watery synths fluttering in the upper register resting above a bouncy synth lead, and punchy 808s, burst in. The track digs itself into a slower, marching groove and shows the duo figuratively doing exactly what the title implies. Painting a portrait of a society that has turned on itself, Mike and El are ready to pull the pin and start over.
The duo both detail their despise for the ruling class, pointing out multiple examples of how the elite have designed our society to keep poor people in their class. Simultaneously recognizing their own hypocrisy for profiting in a system that inherently discriminates; Mike reflects on his own success, knowing that living the lifestyle he enjoys is one built on oppression, and expresses the guilt that has caused him. El-P opens with a brutal metaphor for police, implying that they’re the root cause of the “wretched state of danger” our society exists within, and that the only effective corrective action is to numb yourself with drugs. Despite his advice, Jamie knows this is not a permanent solution, but one that causes more self-inflicted wounds.
The final piece of the puzzle that is RTJ4, “a few words for the firing squad” begins to close the album with ever crescending strings, and loud, thunderous drums which never seem to resolve, continuing throughout their verses. While the drums that lead to nowhere can be sonically unpleasant, the unresolved melodies are intentionally representative of their current mindsets. Their verses are reflective and grim, but simultaneously optimistic and envisions a world where tragedy is a less common occurrence.
El is grateful for what he has now but recognizes his entire life has been skewed by traumas, so out of place feels normal for him. He reflects on his current success, noting that the worst people tend to end up with the most, which makes becoming “rich” something not as desirable as it once was.
Mike opens up about the death of his mother who died while he was on an airplane, admitting his struggles to not cope with his trauma with opioids. However, his wife provides him the most important reason to stay clean “but my queen/say she need a king/not another junkie rapper fiend” while a heartbreaking saxophone solo highlights the gravity of his lyrics.
The track ends with what sounds the like wrap-up voiceover to a TV show, a conceptually satisfying ending, as the opening track “yankee and brave (ep.4)” began with El-P stating:
”This week, on Yankee and The Brave”
This voiceover paints the duo as brothers on the run from the law and crooked cops, and while this does close this “episode” out as intended, the critic in me is bothered by the slightly kitschy outro to such a spectacular album. The voices singing over and over, “Brave, brave, braaaaaave, Yankee and the Brave” would be, simply put, better left on the cutting room floor. The ending of this track alone is what knocks my score of this album down a few points. Despite its stellar lyrical content, with drums that never seem to reach that “holy shit!” moment, and the easily skippable outro, it’s upsetting to me that an album this great ends on such a low note.
Overview
RTJ4 is by far my favorite album of the year. El-P’s cutting edge approach to their sound, blended with lyrical content that continues to be more relevant by the day, the duo have come together with what is objectively their most accessible album to date. RTJ4 is the natural evolution of sound and subject matter for the duo; taking the foundation set by Run The Jewels 3 and evolving it into a more concise, more accessible, and more conceptual album. While I still personally prefer the “fuck the world” intensity and experimental nature of Run The Jewels 2, RTJ4 opens themselves up to a whole new world of exposure, and when you’re as talented as these two, you know they’re going to capitalize on it. RTJ is currently at their apex, and they’ve created an album that will make many new life-long fans going forward.
9.2/10

Peacock Patricia "Peacock" Watson Gallery | Quotes | Move List Peacock action portrait by oh8-d2qigab.jpg Murder-Go-Round Information Peacock (JP: ピーコック) was originally a human girl by the name of Patricia Watson who was turned into an Anti-skullgirl biomechanical weapon by Dr. Avian. Her arsenal consists of the Argus System, a synthetic Parasite, and her "gang", which includes the Avery Unit, Andy Anvil, Tommy Ten-Tons, George Bomb, and Lonesome Lenny.
General Information Peacock is one of the original eight playable characters in Skullgirls, standing out as having the most (unique) assist characters, and was among the first characters ever conceived by Alex Ahad. Her backstory was revealed in detail in the "Meaner. Better. Faster. Stronger" Origin Story in Skullgirls Mobile. Her homestage is Lab 8.
Peacock is capable of aging. Some of her parts may need to be re-fitted because of this.
Peacock took up smoking after her transformation. They are imaginary cigars that are created in a similar manner to her other summons.
Alex Ahad has stated that Peacock will never stop believing in imaginary friends.
Peacock's favorite television program is "Annie: Girl of the Stars". She is shown to own merchandise from the show as she is seen wearing Sagan slippers while in her sleeping attire.
Personality Nothing sates Peacock's boredom more than a good cartoon and laying waste to anyone or anything in her sight. Brash, combative, and impatient, Peacock is easily the most outspoken and infamous member of the Anti-Skullgirl Labs, as well as the most prominent. Peacock is also, for the most part, optimistic and light-hearted, and considers imminent threats more of invitations to brawl. Her tendency toward violence is a reflection of both her tragic past and near-death experience as well as the cartoons she cherishes.
Despite having a damaged psyche, Peacock does not attack people out of sheer randomness or without provocation. Although rude and impersonal to fellow ASG Lab 8 members (and most people in general) superficially, Peacock still very much considers them family, and will go to certain lengths to protect them from harm (or in the case of her and Big Band's story mode, further harm). Dr. Avian was particularly close to Peacock, and his death sent her into an outrage to search for his murderer.
None, however, are closer to Peacock than Marie Korbel, her one true friend from her past and the Skullgirl she was tasked to destroy. In the end, she disposes of Marie as she was instructed, but personally sees to it that Marie's wish to end the Medici Mafia is carried out.
Character Basis Origin Peacock's dialogue and animations reference multiple cartoon eras, but chiefly feature 40's-50's era cartoon violence and slapstick.
Name Her true name is Patricia Watson, while she herself came up with Peacock. The word "peacock" is the more commonly known name of the peafowl, but is actually the term for the male bird.
The name Patricia is derived from the Latin word "patrician" and means "noble". Watson is a patronymic surname meaning "son of Walter". It should be noted that Walter means "ruler of the army", which accurately describes her relationship with her gang.
Being once close friends, Marie continues to address her as Patricia. Her gang typically refer to her as "boss".
Design Her natural eye color used to be green before they were gouged out by slave traders. The Argus System is Peacock's only means of sight, as the ones on her face are actually empty eye-sockets. The holes left are also a visual pun: Due to her design being based on American cartoons, her eye-sockets could easily be interpreted as though they are natural eyes; drawn in the style of a 1930's cartoon character. The joke is how similar styles of drawing can offer different perceptions on how something looks. Her references are similar to the 30's such as Mickey Mouse.
Her cartoon revolver bears resemblance to the Smith & Wesson Model 29, a .44 Magnum revolver made famous by Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry.
In older design concepts, Peacock was intended to be a more "demented type" character, originally being envisioned as a scarred, sociopathic individual due to her experience as a slave. At one point, she was considered to be a boss alongside Marie. Her design was changed to be more 'cartoony' and lighthearted. These design documents also included references to her abilities being part magic with spells being carved onto her bones.
Story Patricia once lived with Marie in an orphanage, which was originally a nobleman's house, in Rommelgrad. Having to make do with what was available, both girls used to dress in maid outfits that they found within the house. At some point, they were captured by slave traders, but because Patricia was too defiant to be a slave, she was mutilated as an example to the others: Her eyes were gouged out, and she was also maimed.
Patricia before peacock.png Patricia as a patient at Lab 8 One year prior to the events of Skullgirls, Lab 8 teamed up with Lab 0 and the Last Peacock Hooded.png Patricia before becoming Peacock Hope to infiltrate the Medici warehouse said to be containing Rommelgrad's refugees. Although Valentine and the rest of her gang safely rescued the refugees, there was very little Valentine could do to repair the damage done to Patricia's body and was even willing to abandon her as a casualty of war. Big Band, however, believed that Dr. Avian would be of help and took the girl back to the Anti-Skullgirl Labs. The doctor informed him that Patricia would adapt well to her new eyes and that she would be walking in no time. Patricia became insistent on becoming an ASG soldier after the impression left on her by Lab 8's team. Despite that, Avian was wary about giving her too much power, while admitting her compatibility with the Avery Unit is strong. After some tests, Patricia's Argus System and Avery Unit were completely installed, and the combination proved to make her more powerful than the scientists had anticipated. Instead of being able to bend only space, Patricia could also bend other aspects of reality, spawning Tommy and Andy during her training. Eager to sign up for Lab 8's team, she assigned herself the name "Peacock".
She later vanished into the city with her gang, causing Lab 8's crew to worry immensely about her safety and condition after her surgery, and Stanley insisted that Big Band find her as soon as possible. Following her trail, Big Band stumbled upon an ice cream stand from which Peacock and her gang ate all of the ice cream except for Rocky Road. He considered this a clue, but later assumes that she was merely stress eating due to all the strange new occurrences happening to her all at once. He finally arrived at a movie theater, where he found the "clown car" that Peacock was said to have driven away in. As the vehicle appeared damaged, he burst into the theatre, assuming that the Medici may have returned for her. Peacock is revealed to be perfectly fine, having gone around the town because she felt she needed a break from the labs. The two begin to hit it off; although Big Band tells her she could have taken a break without causing property damage, they begin to connect through what they like most in a movie.
Ending: After defeating the Skullgirl, which turns out to be her best friend Marie, Peacock destroys the Skull Heart, though the skull heart claimed her act to be "foolish" and that this will "not be over". She and Marie have a friendly conversation before Marie disappears from the world, and Peacock vows to take revenge on the people who made both their lives miserable.
She is seen confronting the true head of the Medici family and his own secret weapon (Black Dahlia) and the two duke it out.
Abilities & Fighting Style With Peacock's physics-bending arsenal, nothing is sacred. She is a kind of character that will exploit any opportunity to its maximum and get away with it. No enemies of hers last long against her sharp eyes and sharper gun...blades. Her opponents last even shorter against her array of flower pots, baseballs, bowling balls, combustible toy cars, and countless other hazards that fill the air. Peacock never plays fairly, and isn't afraid to call in her goons to fight with her. In the rare occasions when Peacock can't topple her opponent, she can simply stall the battle until the timer runs out.
The Avery Unit has the power to “distort” which is a side effect of Peacock’s insanity. She can’t create things out of thin air, but rather modify Lab 8’s range of specialized arsenal. There are certain limits and her summons are only temporary. Her power is still growing so she may be able to summon more things in the future. This is suggested in Big Band's story mode, were he warns Peacock that she 'ain't ready' yet and has to be taught her 'limitations the hard way', but understands her potential in the future by saying 'we're gonna need those girls if we don't want to lose the last of the light'.

In addition, all ants (if Peacock summons multiple through cancelling the move repeatedly) are the same ant, summoned from alternate universes. People who donated $50 to the Skullgirls Evo 2013 Breast Cancer Donation Drive could request a personalized voice mail message from one of the game's voice actors. Peacock's voice actress was requested to sing "Yakko's World" from the cartoon show Animaniacs and two versions of this cover exist, the original with the voice unmodified and the Lab Zero edit which has the voice modified to match the filter Peacock's voice has in-game.[1] The name of Peacock's "Robo With a Shotgun" move is a reference to the 2011 film "Hobo With a Shotgun," which in turn is based on a fake trailer in the intermission of the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez double feature film Grindhouse. In an unused alternate ending, Peacock decides to "wish for something cool" and proceeds to make numerous outrageous wishes (such as turning the world's oxygen into chocolate), which the Skull Heart is unable to fulfill. Comically frustrated, she begins questioning its legend, and the Skull Heart laments that, in the thousands of years it has been doing its work, Peacock is the worst wisher it has met.[2] Peacock originally had an aerial move where she would fire one of her eyes off her Argus arms in a similar fashion to a bow and arrow. This move was dropped for being useless.[3] Peacocks's alternate title, The Murder-go-Round (and the full phrase from her character poster, "The 'Murder-go-Round' Broke Down") is a reference to the Looney Tunes theme song, from 1937 to 1969, known officially as "The Merry-go-Round Broke Down", reflecting her vintage cartoon theme.[4] Her Shadow of Impending Doom Level 3 - Avery drop is a reference to DIO's 'Road Roller Da!' super move from the 1998 arcade game JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Now I'd like to talk about this painting.

This painting is talking about blackjack I think.

Again it's a lot of little ideas that make up a larger one. This is me working this out, so I don't know if I'm right about any of it. I'm showing you because I'd like people to help think about it.

The grid again represents the playing surface of where the rest of this takes place. In this case I think it's the blackjack table in the private penthouse in online.

The brass knuckles are directly over this surface and I believe are meant to evoke the phrase, "hard hand". This is a term in black jack indicating that a hand either has no aces, or all the aces in a hand are valued at one.

The lady is overlapping the grid because I think she represents either the dealer, or one of the cards on the table. You can switch between games in your penthouse and when you do you get a random dealer. She may be one of those models, or maybe it just needs to be female. She looks a bit like Agatha.

She might represent a card though. Lady cards are queens. The fact that she is scantily clad I think is the joke. Casual attire. Or, any suit is fine. She is also greyscale like one of the hands. Is that a dealers hand, or a second hand of the players?

The tiger head. This is a face and it's slightly on top of the diamond. So a diamond face card maybe. Also if you look at the collectible cards from online, one of the joker's is a man's face with a tiger body. Jokers are wild and so are tigers. I think this indicates that we need to collect the card set for this sequence of events.

See here.

The diamond is a diamond lol. The casino, and a specific suit. The interesting thing about this diamond is that if you divide it on any of its main axis' it is inversely symetrical. So are face cards in many playing card decks.

Like this.
And like this.

Diamonds are a red suit, and one of the hands on the table is red.

The lightning bolts. This could be a weather condition, but maybe not. Two of them makes it plural, and even more rare. Two lightning strikes. To strike is to hit, which is a thing you do in blackjack.

So, we have 2 hands and 2 hits. I think it's saying we must split on queens, and one of those queens must be a diamond. Then we need to get 2 aces. This would be 21 twice. That equals 42 and the meaning of life.

A jack of either spades or clubs is also a black jack and that may be important.

The title of this painting in game is, "Let's subvert it". The only downard thing I know about blackjack is double down.
Again, I'm still working this out.

10/13 JP Live Stream

Hey guys, this stream was prerecorded and didn't give much info, so this will be rather short.
Danmachi LN 16 is going on sale on the 15th October in Japan, to celebrate it we're getting 160 Iris.

Summary

Casino: Joker Heroic Trial - This time you can pick from Riveria, Chloe and Naaza. Daily CP Item Quest - Wish they added the new CP item so we could stock up. Seventh Zone- Nothing new here Wargame - Preliminary round for FWG Events ending this week Events starting this week
Since last week's leaks turned out to be right about Potato Stand Hestia, I am including the leaks for the next unit, since they've been making rounds. Only check if you don't mind anime spoilers!
Lyd (Lizardman)

Only interesting information that I can remember is that someone asked when will NY Gareth and Chigusa (stall ailment units) have their ascension unlocked. The answer is that they are still considering whether they need to unlock it, because they are already strong enough as is".
See you next week. o/

Summary of the Persona 5 Royal info from the trailer and website (includes P5 Spoilers!)

Finally, some info!
I'll divide this into details from the trailer and details from the site (there's a lot of the latter), with a few bits of speculation thrown in (I'll make it clear which details are confirmed and which are just mine though):
The trailer (in roughly the order of appearance):
Those shoulders look too broad to be Kasumi's (and doesn't seem to have long hair or a ponytail), but they have hair so can't be Shido. But those are definitely seams on the edges of the shoulders...it's Takuto, isn't it?
Maybe Kasumi talks first and Takuto hijacks the message and/ or kidnaps or attacks her while she's delivering it? Maybe they're the same person under different personas personalities? Atlus has done weirder stuff!
Edit 8: I wrote another post analysing the English fan-translation of the trailer, including some further speculation about Gnostic influences. Please check it out too if you have the time!
The website:
There's a ton of stuff here, as I said before!
From the opening "reel" of screenshots:
Section 1: Kasumi Yoshizawa and Takuto Maruki:
Section 2:
And now Lady Ann and I will finally... happy cat noises
In any case, this confirms a "Golden" ending where Joker doesn't need to turn himself in to ensure Shido gets punished. Maybe this involves the "vision" at the start of the trailer and getting Goro to confess on his behalf instead? Or maybe the Yaldabaoth situation is handled differently in such a way that gives Sae the evidence she needs to convict him (assuming the bonus dungeon is in fact the Velvet Room)?
Edit 1: But this also begs the question: what will we do in those three months? Will the Metaverse survive the final boss this time around, or will the last three months be purely for social stats and Confidants? Will at least Mementos survive, so we can complete Confidants, or will they be re-written (by default or after the end of the game) so that Mementos won't be necessary for them?
Section 3:
This details the additions to the overworld and Metaverse.

Edit 1: Thanks to the screenshot in this thread (thank you, u/ZuskatoIsR3D) we can see Kasumi's stats in relation to everyone else's. Her numbers are lower than the other three, though this could just mean she recently joined the group and needs to catch up, but her SP is less than half her HP. This could mean either:
The next batch on information will come on May 9th. However, there's also a talk show tomorrow with Joker's VA that was supposed to give P5R info, which makes me think tomorrow will just have a recap of today's stuff (along with info of an upgrade deal for existing owners, I hope).
Persona 5 Royal releases on Halloween in Japan and 2020 in the West (the English trailer also confirms the Western name drops the "The" in the Japanese title as many suspected, following P4G's example). 'til then, enjoy! I hope you found this useful!
Edit 4: Theories (marked with "(*X)" above):
  1. It's possible that the meeting between Kasumi, Ren and Akechi is where we hear the dialogue from last month's trailer ("What do you think of the Phantom Thieves?") After all, them meeting at all means she isn't restricted to only meeting him at the TV station, and this gives her more time to form an opinion on how they work - at least until finding her way into the metaverse and seeing what they do and why.
  2. u/TheReaperCreeper had a much better suggestion than me: what if Akechi is the one who turns himself in for Ren's sake? As another user of the Metaverse he can also answer questions about it to get Shido sentenced, while also paying for his own crimes. Better still, he could claim to be the leader of the Thieves to keep the law off everyone else's backs, thus getting to redeem himself while also being punished for the things he did. Thanks, Reaper!
  3. I was going to say Kasumi may only be important because she was in the right place at the right time, but this certainly hints at a more supernatural cause if true.
  4. u/hypercombofinish suggested Kasumi's Persona could be Dorothée, and since her outfit shares so many similarities to Joker's I think this is highly likely. For those who don't know, Dorothée is the lead character of the novel The Secret Tomb, the only Arsène Lupin book in which Arsène himself doesn't appear. Instead the plot is about Dorothée solving one of his "four fabulous secrets". This could be highly fitting for someone initially disagrees with the Thieves before becoming one herself and would also tie her into Joker's "mythology" the same way Marie and her backstory tied into Izanagi's (and thus Yu) - assuming Kasumi is the Aeon Arcana and not a Fool or Jester or something completely different, of course.
  5. The trailer as a whole has a small narrative running about Kasumi trying to dissuade the Thieves from their work, while Morgana tells her they won't be swayed by the danger or not getting results. This provides some early insight into her character, but maybe she eventually goes off the deep end and tries to control everything as a way of keeping everyone safe? Morgana telling her that "granting everyone's dreams is bad" and her saying she "took everyone's dreams" is also quite interesting. Maybe Wakaba and human!Morgana are just illusions? I plan on making a full post about the translated trailer tomorrow, but this is just something to sleep on until then.

8 Dragon Quest Facts to get you Hyped for Hero

Hey everybody, now that we're into July and people are beginning to speculate when we may see Hero drop, I figured why not share some cool facts to help build the anticipation for him popping up? Originally, I was going to share this post I made a few weeks ago on how big the Dragon Quest series is in Japan, and how to easily get into the series. However, I'm still getting the hang of Reddit not sure if re-sharing a post I already made is looked down on (or conversely if it's the norm). Regardless I thought this would be a cool topic, and I hope it keeps your interest. Enjoy.
The Hero's YT trailer was huge in Japan
At this point, even non-fans of Dragon Quest know the series is huge in Japan, though for many westerners who have barely even heard of this series, that may be hard to believe. To prove it, let's take a look at some recent Smash trailers, here is the Japanese YT trailer for Banjo's reveal Over a million views, not bad at all.
In fact, pretty big for Japan since they're not as into YouTube, NicoNico Video being Japan's video sharing service of choice (though some Japanese Smash players do get up to 7 million views), but I get a feeling that they were interested in checking out the character that westerners were overreacting too (that kind of thing is a meme in Japan). However, let's take a look at the trailer for the Hero in comparison a whopping 3.6 million views in only a month. Even more impressive is that it got over 2 million views in just one day.
Not only does that trailer have more than double the views that Banjo got, in just a few days it's got more views than the Cloud Reveal, and passed the Japanese World of Light Trailer as well as Bayonetta. If it keeps climbing, it may end up being the most viewed Japanese Smash trailer. As a huge DQ fan, I can tell you that when the camera panned up to Loto, it was surreal to say the least. I can only imagine what the Japanese gaming scene must have been like to see this reveal. Just insanity, pure, simple, and beautiful, (much like that trailer itself).
Not the first time DQ crossed over with Mario
Due to its overwhelming popularity and long legacy with Nintendo, Dragon Quest has actually made crossover games with the Mario characters before. Due to Mario's history with the Mario Party a series, and Dragon Quest putting board games and casinos within their own games, and both franchises being MASSIVE, Nintendo and Square Enix have actually published a few fun crossover games featuring both franchises. These games being the Japan-only Itadaki Street for the Nintendo DS, Mario Sports Mix for the Wii (which also featured Final Fantasy), and Fortune Street for the Wii. These games were all either developed or published by Square Enix, so there wasn't much hassle in mixing their DQ characters.
Sakurai has already Homaged Dragon Quest in Kirby Super Star
Those who have played Super Star on the SNES and it's DS remake Super Star Ultra, one of the most important Kirby games made by Daddy Sakurai himself, will remember Computer Virus, an enemy who's boss battle functions similar to an RPG turn-based encounter. While the blue and white text boxes are a Final Fantasy reference, the enemies that the virus generates are based on Dragon Quest monsters, with the very first enemy literally being named after the iconic Slime. So that menu-based battle system Sakurai gave the Hero in Shash isn't his first time trying that sort of thing out.
Most Isekai anime are based on Dragon Quest
Isekai have absolutely been dominating anime these days. Feels like we can't go a single season without at least one popping up and becoming a hit. What flies over the heads of most Western fans is that most of those Isekai exist simply because Dragon Quest (or "Dorakue") is such a household name in Japan. In Konosuba, the main character Kazuma is clearly depicted as being a huge fan of a Dragon Quest based game in his world, and the fantasy world he gets transported to runs on Dragon Quest style mechanics. It's also evident due to the fact that he underestimates an opponent for being a slime, which is depicted as the weakest form of monster in Dragon Quest games (not so much in his world or D&D). Another series called Maoyuu Maou Yuusha features a kind of pervy take on Dragon Quest, with its hero clearly being based on Loto/Erdrick and the villain being based on the Dragon Lord... with quite a few liberties (one Puff-Puff from her and your entire party is wiped out). There's also the recent series "That TIme I was Reincarnated as a Slime" which I'm sure needs no explaining how that's connected to Dragon Quest. I could go on for quite a while listing series, and how they connect to different Dragon Quest games, but you get the idea.
Heck, just this very morning before posting this, I found this on YouTube.
A very good chunk of Smash characters exist because of or in part because of Dragon Quest
Even those of you who have never played or have little experience with Dragon Quest probably know it's the reason we have JRPGs as a genre. Yuji Hori and his team worked very hard to translate computer-based Dungeons & Dragons simulators/clones into a streamlined interface that would work well with the NES button and control inputs. His ability to do so and the fact that Enix surrounded him with so much talent lead them to create a nationwide sensation. That UI and the ideas within the DQ games lead to just about every RPGs inception in Japan in some way or another. So the Fire Emblem characters, Cloud, Joker, the Pokemon, Xenoblade, and Earthbound would not be a thing without DQ (just to name a few). Heck, I thought it would be cool if Hero's classic mode involved him fighting Marth, Ness, Pokemon Trainer, Cloud, Shulk, and Joker, but remembered that since Joker is DLC, he's probably not a candidate for classic mode (so maybe something like this?).
In fact, the Mother series (my favorite games of all time) exist as a direct parody of the Dragon Quest games.
Not to mention that all the cute monsters Akira Toriyama drew for DQ to make monsters based off is part of why we have so many cutesy mascot characters in video games. They were a huge phenomenon in their own right in Japan, with Slime merchandise alone making an entire fortune. While that kind of thing already existed in Japan, DQ's unprecedented success was a huge push in that direction for Japanese, and eventually western game development (heck one of Kirby's friends Goey is a very blatant Slime rip off). Who knows, maybe in some ways Dragon Quest's normalization of cartoony cute characters is a small part of why even Banjo Kazooie exists today.
This is a great year for Dragon Quest
That's not a rare phenomenon, Dragon Quest has ridden many waves of success in its lifetime. This year is already looking good with the Hero's inclusion in Smash, and the release of DQXIS on the horizon (apparently you can't take 5 steps in Japan without seeing an ad for it). However, that's only the tip of the iceberg, as this year also marks the theatrical release of Dragon Quest Your Story a CGI movie based on Dragon Quest V (considered by many to be the best of the series) that honestly looks quite good. Plus we have the impending release of Pokemon Go! clone #4806 with Dragon Quest Walk which actually looks pretty cool since unlike other mobile walk games, this one has it's actual RPG mechanics built in (doubt it'll come to the west though).
Not to mention the coming western release of Dragon Quest Builders 2 (which has the most hype announcer for anything I've ever seen).
Now Smash has 2 more NES reps
While there are some characters who pre-date the NES in Smash, for many of us, considering the NES was Nintendo's first home console, many consider it to be the purest form of representation in Smash, especially if not only the series, but a character(s) from that series was actually on the NES. With the Hero's inclusion, not only does Smash have another series that debuted on the NES added to its mythos, but with Erdrick/Loto and Solo being included as part of the Hero's slot, we now have the main characters of 2 more NES games as part of the roster. Not just any games either, since Dragon Quest III and Dragon Quest IV came out right at the height of Dragon Quest fever in Japan during the 80's and were wildly popular. To this day people in Japan who don't know much about video games just call all video games "Dorakue".
Including Donkey Kong, Daisy, Dr. Mario, ROB, the 7 Koopaling, and Pac-Man (though feel free to remove them if you think those are kind of a stretch), that brings Smash up to having a total of 36 NES characters. Smash Ultimate really is the ultimate.
Also, Dragon Quest was in Captain-N so... that was a thing... moving on.
Satoru Iwata was a key figure for Dragon Quest
Anyone who knows anything about Nintendo worships Satoru Iwata for his countless contributions to Nintendo, and anyone who knows anything about Iwata himself knows he was involved in some capacity of many of Nintendo's major games, as well as good friends with many key figures in the game industry. It's probably no big surprise to anyone to reveal that he also had a hand in helping to make Dragon Quest popular and even attempted to try and make it popular in the west, even when Enix wasn't putting much effort into the series outside Japan.
Iwata and Yuji Hori also happen to be friends, and Hori even agreed to be part of a special Dragon Quest based Iwata Asks. Hori like many developers and fans was also quite saddened by Iwata's passing.
Hopefully, Smash can help fulfill Iwata's desire to see Dragon Quest popular in the west.
Well I could try more to make this the standard 10 cool facts, maybe talk about Slimes or the iconic menus in Dragon Quest (no seriously, in Japan the menus are a big thing), or more facts about Hori, Sugiyama, and Toriyama, but most of my other facts are either too long or too short... and I honestly kind of shot myself in the foot with that post I made to nintendo up at the top by using half the cool stuff like the museum, the weeb cr@p, and other facts to get people hype. So if you want more, check that out.
In any case, I can't wait for them to release the Hero (I may redo all of World of Light just because of this) and I really hope this got some of you who may not have been as hyped or aren't as familiar with Dragon Quest to feel even a little bit as excited as I am, and very much hope that anyone who may have been a detractor of DQ being represented in Smash see why not only does Dragon Quest deserve to be in Smash, but to also ask why on earth it took so long for such an iconic series to be represented? (...ok, the answer is Square Enix).
Anyways, thanks so much for reading, and have a great day.

Today's Mission

Today's mission is very simple - you will choose whether you want to earn a joker at the expense of turning a right answer on your test into a wrong one. Will you take the 'money' at the risk of putting your life in the game in danger?
The Weremole will guess what each contestant will do in a confessional. The contestants will submit a confessional indicating what they want to do: 'go for the joker' or 'decline the joker'. Any won jokers will be delivered at the start of next phase. If you go for the joker, your test this phase will have one right answer turned into a wrong one.
  • The contestants win if the Weremole loses. They will learn one truth and one lie about the Weremole.
  • The Weremole wins if they guess what a majority of the contestants will do. Your scores may be off by one.
As a reminder, no items may be submitted during the last phase of the game. So start thinking about if and when to use your items. This mission will be your last chance to earn a joker through missions.

Forms

Phase turnover is at 7:00 PM PDT.

#No$4Bugs It's Time To Unite As Community
Have you ever felt unhappy about the situation of this game? Annoyed by the bugs that affect your playtime? Angry about how you're treated?
Worry not, you're not alone.
That's why you're reading this post.
Top players and casuals, spenders and F2P gamers, are uniting, right now, because they love this game. We want the game to be better. To be treated better. To see ourselves valued. To know the time and the resources we are investing will be worth it.
We want to be heard.
For the first time in the history of this game, most of the top players and leagues are putting their differences and rivalries aside to step up and finally achieve what the playerbase deserves.

How will the community try to achieve their goals?

From February 11th to March 11th every spender that will take part in the protest will NOT spend any money in the game and its offers. During this time frame, every Top League that has or will join the protest will feature "#No$4bugs" in their League names (eg. #No$4Bugs - Excelsior)
Anyone that believes that this protest is a worthy cause is encouraged to decrease their playtime.

Who's participating?

Members from most of the Top Leagues joined and many will join in the near future. You'll find a list of the major names that are contributing in the comment section.

How can I contribute?

Here are a few ways to contribute yourself:
  • Spread the word and share this message to as many players as possible, even by using #NoBucks4Bugs;
  • Talk with your League admins and discuss on adding "#No$4bugs" to your League name (eg. #No$4Bugs - Excelsior);
  • Decrease your playtime: developers in general check how often players interact with their game(s). A significant game playtime decrease will help the cause.
  • If you are an occasional / light / heavy spender, refrain from spending yourself: while you might think it won't matter, every purchase counts.
  • Leave a Comment down here with your In-Game Name!
  • Let's use #NoBucks4Bugs in your tweets and posts to show Twitter and the other Social Networks how united we are!
Use this image as your profile picture on your Social Media!

What's our purpose?

Communication
  • We are hoping for a more open dialogue with game developers to discuss issues in a candid and transparent manner on all platforms. A single community manager active regularly on TwitteDiscord for a game downloaded over 100 million times on the App Stores is a poor ratio, there is only so much he can do.
  • Lack of QA staff to catch bugs earlier and address player issues.
  • The quality of “EA HELP” is currently very low and the system needs a revamp.
  • Lack of efficient in-game communication tools for users not on social media to report bugs.
Transparency
  • Asking people who spend real money on this game to purchase packs before the full event is revealed is not ethical, as there is potential for betteworse packs in the future. The focus on withholding full information and supplying packs must stop. Eg. Hidden freeze snowflakes; multiple FP packs during the course of TOTY: each with a varying degree of value for money; POTM Pogba cost decrease; Lunar “presale pack”-a new low.
  • Apart from events, there is a general sense of a lack of transparency in this game from the developers, leaving several users alienated.
Game Design
  • The most prominent issue with this season is the evident lack of quality game design as showcased by the numerous hotfixes by the game developers (Training Discount %, Chemistry update, Auction-able players, Flash Sale points, Domination Manolas etc., “buff" to the rainbow skill move which followed the release of TOTY starters with roulette sends mixed message);
  • It is becoming increasingly clear that each event is geared at increasing potential financial outlay and not towards building a sustainable game mode. Events after Football Freeze have been bereft of tools for overall progression, instead becoming mind-numbing repetition of the same skill games to grind towards arbitrary rewards, which will eventually be made redundant by the event following it. All this makes you think - WHERE’S THE FOOTBALL I SIGNED UP FOR?
  • The focus has been on churning out wave after wave of cards; plummeting in value each event; with a notable lack of skill boost progression (The pack distribution, rarity types etc. have led to many players finding their progress halted). VSA season end rewards have also been very disappointing and cater disproportionately more to the paying customers;
  • The market is in a state of turmoil due to the overload of cards and lack of coin input;
  • 80-88 rated players have become useless as the cost to train is disproportionately high if compared to the relatively low cost of 90+ rated players; which makes you wonder what the goal behind setting these values of TXP could be? (Again - Communication and Transparency);
  • Where’s the fun in grinding out 10 different currencies to consolidate into a single main chain with zero branches and no potential for choice of reward? The concept of Strategy has been pushed out of the game and is leading to a severe lack of user engagement;
  • Hiring of a high quality game designer who understands the different currencies and tools for overall progression well is a must to address the above issues. The whole season has been poorly designed and desperately needs a fix;
Summary of some of the identified issues that need fixing:
  1. Cards get cheaper and cheaper every event, market crash;
  2. Lack of Boost progression over the last few months;
  3. Lack of clarity on plans for Rank ups/Training players;
  4. Events don't significantly help progression without luck;
  5. Overcomplicated event currencies.
Gameplay/Bugs/Cheating/Misc.
  • Despite having a beta program, the game is still riddled with bugs. The developers are aware of these, and the time frame for such fixes is always unclear and players take advantages of bugs/glitches. Several members of the top 250 in VSA have reached there using the VSA glitch but there has been no action taken or communication regarding such instances;
  • As the season has progressed we are seeing the same 4-5 types of skill games in all events, making it monotonous and we feel like we're playing the same event with a different skin pasted on it;
  • Each bug fix seems to create more bugs, and there seems to be a lack of motivation behind fixing them. Even if there is the lack of communication makes it look like there isn’t any. A “State of Development” and official acknowledgement of existing bugs would be appreciated;
  • LVL has gone 3 seasons with less and less content coming out each season, for many of us it is the most fun part of the game and with no Weekend Tournament, it remains one of the only entertaining competitive modes, and yet there is evidence of cheating even in this game mode;
  • One might wonder if this is a football game or a casino game. Each step taken by the devs seem to indicate the latter. There even was a “spin the wheel” in store. This game is dominated more by luck than by skill/intelligence and this must change. Manipulating the market shouldn’t be the best way to progress as a F2P, proper game management should;
  • The fact that users cannot even pick which players/rewards/resources they want to go for during an event (among other things) is wrong and promotes a dangerous luck based reward system (eg. Messi TOTY @9 Mln vs Ronaldo @18 Mln);
  • There is no confirmation message while making purchases with FIFA Points, which is extremely unethical considering the placement of packs are designed to make users more likely to click on them. It isn't hard to ask for confirmation before buying a pack; and this must be implemented for purchase security sake, as users may unintentionally spend their FP;
In conclusion, each and every game mode currently has some significant problems that EA should address:
  1. H2H: disconnects and back-passing;
  2. VSA: Glitch and heavy RNG/luck influence;
  3. LVL: outdated rewards and mode, although fun;
  4. Events: Monotonous skill games, no creativity or planning involved;
  5. Campaign: Majority finished it in the first month, pales in comparison to last season’s expansive engaging campaign mode;
  6. Market: Coin sellers;
  7. Domination: Boring, poor time/value ratio.
We truly believe the developer team will listen to our feedback.We only want the best for the game.Now it' EA's turn to prove they want the same.
