[WTS] Auction Leftovers #6

Hello again, and good morning!
This listing is for items that did not sell during the January 17 Auction, so you can buy anything you want right here and right now - no buyer's premiums, no additional fees.
*FREE shipping for any order over $100.
*All items priced at $1 are now .75 each
Each lot was individually imaged (front and back) for the auction - so the easiest way for you to see exactly what you're buying is to visit the auction link (the auction is over, so I'm not advertising anything different or advertising an upcoming auction) - so here that is:

Here is the required "prove you still have the stuff" photo with the username card and today's date:

Payment: PayPal only. I do not have Venmo/Zello/Bitcoin or any other form of digital payment at this time. No notes if using PPFF, please. (Thank you.) If you choose to use PPFF, please make sure to send me your shipping address here as it won't automatically load with your payment.
Shipping: I will charge you what it costs me for the USPS label rounded up to the nearest dollar. For First Class that is usually $4, for USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Small Box it will be $9. I will get you a tracking number right after payment is received and will get your package scanned into the USPS system within 24 hours of receipt of payment. I will offer "Risky Shipping" (via stamped greeting card) at my discretion for $1 - for single, small coins ONLY. NOTE: These prices are for Continental US shipping only - if you live outside the continental US, shipping will be more expensive. I am still happy to do it under the same rules as above, but just keep in mind it's going to cost more.
What do YOU need to do to buy coins from this group: send me a list of which lots you want (for example, I want to buy lots # 51, 52, 53, 54, 55) and I will send you a total. There are too many coins here (plus there are duplicates) so I cannot look up the coins you want by description - just give me lot numbers and it will be much simpler.
I'd like to make a simple and polite request - if I have sent you my PayPal information (meaning we've agreed to a deal) please finish it up as soon as you can so I can check you off the list and move on to the next person. This helps make sure you get all the coins we discussed and no one else is in limbo.
I will do my absolute best to update the ad as soon as lots sell.

Note: Image of U.S. Supreme Court.jpg) Justice Brett Kavanaugh and Donald Trump is a White House photo, therefore is public domain and holds no copyright liability, and I still hold that it is protected under Fair Use Doctrine.
Brian D. Hill formerly of USWGO alternative news had mailed out a letter to Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh, a associate Justice who was appointed to the bench by U.S. President Donald John Trump in 2018. Brian had asked this Justice under the ‘rule of 4’ to consider his petition for writ of certiorari, and to drain the swamp as Donald Trump instructed people to do.
I received three files from Brian’s mother, one containing a signed scanned document of the letter which was mailed to the Supreme Court in Washington, DC. The second document containing the typed version of the letter without a signature and is easy to search up text. The third document is the scans of a certified mail ticket and return receipt. Document downloads below the images.

Letter to Justice Kavanaugh Letter to Justice Kavanaugh – Scanned Certified mail receipt, return receipt
The letter to Justice Kavanaugh at the Supreme Court has some interesting paragraphs:
“I have proven my case, I have proven my claims. Under the Local Court Rules concerning civil cases which encompasses the 2255 Cases, the other party in a case has three weeks to respond to a motion or it is uncontested. Assistant United States Attorney Anand Prakash Ramaswamy did not respond to a single allegation of Fraud upon the Court against him in those motions in the district court record. It is only by corruption and fiat that I lose. In a legitimate Article III Court I should never have been convicted.” Letter from Brian D. Hill to Brett Kavanaugh – dated July 21, 2020
When the game is rigged, I always lose, no matter what evidence or case law I offer, none of it matters, the law doesn’t matter. A rigged game shouldn’t be in any legitimate Article III courts of our Constitutional republic, yet in my case it was rigged from the start, rigged for my conviction, rigged for either 20 years in prison inflating beyond the statutory 10 years of imprisonment or I falsely plead guilty to get time served, my only choices given to me by my so-called defense lawyer Eric David Placke. How pathetic. That is ridiculous. The whole case was a fraud from the beginning to get me shut down, to permanently not allow me to use the Internet to permanently prevent me from operating USWGO Alternative News at uswgo.com, violating my First Amendment right to freedom of speech and freedom of press by local judicial fiat. Probation is not meant to help me and neither is it meant to be operating under it’s guise to deter crime, it is meant to put me in the system and allow the frauds to continually come after me and make me repeat that I am guilty of a crime that was fraudulently constructed against me by contradictory evidence and a contradictory basis. A system that wants to end my freedom of speech and freedom of press forever.“ Letter from Brian D. Hill to Brett Kavanaugh – dated July 21, 2020
That is scary what Brian is saying. If he is correct then the entire federal court of appeals of the fourth circuit in Richmond Virginia and the entire federal court district in Greensboro, North Carolina has become a “rigged game” where criminal defendants always lose and can never be allowed a criminal defense. Sounds similar to the claims of Roger Stone, a Donald Trump confidant and ally. That sounds totally unconstitutional to even be subject to a rigged trial, a rigged game. That is like being compelled to play a pinball game tournament and you aren’t given a metal ball while your opponent is given 5 metal balls to rack up serious points against you. You can’t win a rigged game. Even in casinos in Las Vegas, NV, those that know of the rigged casinos know that the house always wins and is skewed that way.
The Honorable President Donald Trump appointed judges and Justices to protect our Constitution, law and order, to punish the wrongdoers and bring back the lost Rule of Law. He appointed people like you to Drain the Swamp as QAnon talks about. We are all sick and tired of the blatant corruption within the DOJ and the FBI and the CIA. The corruption that is ruining lives, causing suicides and murders, and are holding our economy hostage with Covid-19, that is Certificate of Vaccine Identification 2019, if that is even the truth, whatever the case may be.” Letter from Brian D. Hill to Brett Kavanaugh – dated July 21, 2020
As to what Brian said about being forced to repeat his alleged guilt, Brian is referring to his false guilty plea where one of his supervised release conditions of federal probation were that Brian D. Hill must attend a offender treatment provider where he must tell them that he is guilty of the crime and wants to victimize the alleged unknown no-victims. When he refused, they attempted to revoke his probation on that offense of not making another false admission of guilt, which violates the 5th Amendment constitutional right against self incrimination. When Brian is innocent, it is even ridiculous that Brian has to explain to the Supreme Court that he was being forced by federal probation to falsely admit guilt or his probation would be revoked.
Luckily his probation officer Jason McMurray vouched that Brian be allowed to continue his federal supervised probation despite his refusal to accept responsibility for the crime that he kept claiming that he was innocent of but had a bad lawyer, the public pretenders who only want plea agreements. The facts alone that Brian was able to prove to the Court system that Anand Prakash Ramaswamy, federal prosecutor, did not contest the allegations of fraud against him show that his guilty plea was caused by a perpetuated fraud of false evidence from the very beginning. Brian contends that he was innocent all along and was fraudulently convicted over fraudulent elements of guilt that were fabricated.
That sound familiar to the case of Lieutenant General Michael Thomas Flynn, where he was told that his son would be investigated or charged with a crime [presumably by usage of prosecutorial fraud like with General Flynn] if General Flynn does not falsely plead guilty to lying to the FBI
Coercion, false threats, or real threats or even promises are some of various reasons why criminal defendants falsely plead guilty in court according to the Innocence Project [mirrored here].
Brian Hill had proven with the publishing of his medical records via the TEACCH papers that he had a mild form of autism spectrum disorder since he was a child. People with autism are more vulnerable to giving false confessions and misleading statements.
It will be interesting to see what Justice Kavanaugh plans to do after reading Brian’s letter. Will he vote in favor of granting Brian’s petition for writ of certiorari under the rule of four?
According to the rule of four, at least four justices must agree to review over the petitioned case in order for the petition to be granted in the United States Supreme Court. After a petition is granted, it normally will be more thoroughly investigated and the original court records of the case may be demanded by the clerk of that court. Once the entire record of the case is transferred to the Supreme Court, it will take time for the staff of the Supreme Court to review over the evidence, arguments, and any other relevant pleadings or paperwork. After the paperwork and materials is reviewed, the Court may schedule oral argument and may even render an opinion as well as precedential case law which will affect all courts throughout the United States in some way, shape, or form. In some cases the court may order and remand back to the lower court and not give an opinion. There are also the majority opinion and even dissenting opinions which could affect future cases and arguments at a later time. At least 5 Justices are needed for a favorable decision when there are a total of 9 Justices sitting on the bench.
My hopes and prayers go out to Brian and his family. Hope that his hard work pays off. God bless America.

In 1979, the U.S. Embassy in Moscow was losing more than 120 informants a year to Russian KGB. by 1981, that number had dropped to just 10. Now, a former intelligence agent is raising alarm that the wildly unorthodox methods once used to protect Russian sources could pose a devastating new threat

Myra Kindle is an independent investigative reporter.
Her other reports:

A Career Intelligence Agent

In retirement, Kurt Wexler, 84, is like the rest of us.
He likes nothing more than spending his days spoiling his four grandchildren, catching up on old hobbies he’s missed, and volunteering at Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church near his home in Richmond, Virginia.
In his career, Kurt Wexler was nothing like the rest of us.
He was one of just three men responsible for coordinating the complicated web of Russian informants in Moscow during the late 1970s and mid 1980s.
He authorized bribes, covered up murders, and threatened women and children, all in the name of protecting vital sources of information necessary to the United States during the Cold War.
“I laugh a bit at the whole waterboarding issue,” says Kurt. “It’s very serious, of course I know, but also, we didn’t have congressional oversight to deal with, so it’s just a bit funny to me. What stopped us from doing something we ought naught do was the thought it might provoke nuclear war. You know, that was our oversight.”
Mr. Wexler is not the type of former government employee to speak to the press. During our five interviews, he on multiple occasions made comment that he was only speaking to me as a matter of last resort.
But then, why speak at all?
Kurt is worried. Since the April, 2018 expulsion of US government personnel all over Russia, he says the methods, procedures, and equipment used to protect informants during the Cold War is under virtually no supervision.
“A great liability is sitting in in the middle of Moscow and I don’t think anyone is there to look over it,” says Kurt. “It absolutely terrifies me when I think about it.”
Kurt adds that this is not political, saying, “the politicians don't even know.”
Based on interviews with Mr. Wexler, former and current government officials, and supported with documentation provided by Mr. Wexler, independent investigative reporter Myra Kindle, for the first time, shares details of the highly unorthodox methods used to protect Russian informants during the Cold War, and presents what’s at stake if it goes unprotected.

The Soviets that Kept America Safe

Some did it for money, others for a chance at a life in America, and others still simply on moral grounds. But regardless of their motivations, informants have been a central pillar to US intelligence agencies for as long as those agencies have existed.
“Informants are both how we get new information, but also how we confirm what we think we already know,” says Peter Mattis, a former CIA analyst. “We’d essentially be doing a lot more guesswork and would lack a lot of confirmation of details without informants. They’re essential to rigorous intelligence work.”
Mr. Wexler declined to name any specific information that he collected through informants during his time in Moscow, but said: “It ranged on level of importance depending on how important the source was. It could be as mundane as how much sugar an officer likes in his coffee, or as serious as a planned assassination attempt on a US ally.”
Opposite Kurt, and trying to root out his web of informants at every chance was the Soviet secret police, the Komitet Gosudarstvennoy Bezopasnosti, or as they’re better known, the KGB.
With more than 60 years of secret police programs under its belt, and with new powers granted to them in 1978, to say the KGB had absolute power on the streets of Moscow is still an understatement.
“They could do, and did do, whatever they wanted,” says Kurt. “They had a city gripped in fear. More than just wiretaps, they had access to eight million people, nearly all of whom would rat on their neighbors, friends, family. To be an informant was just an incredible risk, but those that did it, did it regardless.”

An Incredible Risk

On October 4th, 1979, the body of 21 year old Natalia Kozlov was discovered near the Khruscheva apartment buildings in West Moscow. She had apparently fallen from her fifth story apartment.
On October 12th of the same year, two men were found shot dead near the Brateyevo district‎. The gunshot wounds were so severe to their faces that they were never identified.
One week later on October 19th, the body of a six year old girl was discovered floating in Moskva River. It would later be determined that the girl’s father had been shot and thrown off the Borodinsky bridge, and that the girl had died from hypothermia after going into the river to try and rescue him.
While Kurt refuses to confirm any of these deaths were related to his informants, his eyes water as I read aloud about the young girl.
“As soviet citizens, they were supposed to be my enemy,” Kurt says, “but I cared for them like my own brothers, sisters, nephews, and nieces. If you were my informant, I did everything I possibly could to protect you.”
In 1979, Kurt’s options to do that were limited.
“Secrecy was our best tool,” he says, “but in a city with eyes and ears everywhere, that can only get you so far. Sometimes, we had to resort to almost KGB type tactics. We would bribe, we would threaten. On one occasion to protect one of our highest valued informants, I authorized the murders of his cleaning lady and driver because I thought they had found something and might go to the police. I’m not proud of everything we did, but we did it to protect Americans and more immediately, the Soviets trying to protect America.”
When reached for comment, the CIA denies that Mr. Wexler ever worked for the agency, however other sources were able to confirm he was an employee of the State Department from 1960 to 1997. Mr. Wexler also provided documentation to this effect.
In regards to the methods used by Kurt, the CIA provided the following statement: “US intelligence agencies do not disclose intelligence gathering practices, however Mr. Wexler’s descriptions are not accurate.”
Off the record, several former intelligence officials tell me Kurt’s description is wholly consistent with what they understand were tactics taken in Moscow around that time.

The Game Changer

It started with suspicion of betrayal.
Mr. Wexler’s clandestine activities were just one of three prongs. He had two co-equal partners that ran their own informant rings, and for security reasons, Kurt was unaware of the informants working for his partners, as were they left in the dark about informants working for Kurt.
They were a team, but a disjointed one, compartmentalized for security in case any one of them were compromised.
In the summer of 1980, it began to look to Kurt that both his partners were betraying their mission.
“We don't share information about informants,” says Kurt, “but we were supposed to be sharing safety methods and procedures. My two partners had lost zero informants in the first six months of 1980 and they refused to tell me why. Moscow has always been one of the most dangerous cities for informants, and yet they cracked the code to gather information safely and refused to discuss it.”
Kurt saw a likely explanation -- they had been compromised.
“I didn’t speculate as to why. It could have been blackmail, or money, or just plain ‘ol ideological defection,” says Kurt, “but something fishy was going on. I figured they had to be working with the USSR.”
Kurt adds, “The stakes were enormous. They could have been feeding US intelligence bunk information for months.”
Both the CIA and State Department refused comment on the subject of the number of informants lost in Moscow during this time period and whether or not it had changed. A representative at the State Department however wished to add: “The US State Department is not a spy apparatus of the United States.”
Off the record, current and former intelligence officials tell me Moscow stands alone as the safest city for informants feeding information to the US.
One official who agreed to speak anonymously said: “Around the early 80s there was a massive reduction in the number of informants being killed around the Moscow area. That trend continued all the way through the end of the Cold War, the 1990s, and even today.” He added, “It’s completely contradictory to how dangerous the city is for other enemies of the Kremlin.”

Spy vs Spy

By August of 1980, Kurt had had enough.
Working with a small group of his closest confidants, he set up an elaborate string operation on his two partners that had refused to share on why their informants were no longer being targeted. The operation revealed that his two partners had been meeting at the same location every two weeks near the heart of Moscow.
“There are more than 800 safe houses and cache deposits used by US intelligence all around Moscow,” says Kurt. “Once I figured out they weren’t going to any of them, it became much more likely in my mind that they had defected.”
In late September, he made his move when he personally followed the two men. Accompanied by three confidants, and all armed, Kurt was mentally prepared to kill one or both of his partners.
“We had staked out the apartment complex they were visiting for the better part of a month,” says Kurt. “We were certain that to the specific apartment they were going to, no one but them had ever come in or out. It was thought the apartment was used as a dead drop location, and that information, money, whatever, was being passed through one of the adjacent apartments. With just the two of them in there, we were pretty confident we could take them in, but if it came to it, we were ready to shoot too.”
The night would end without an intentional murder, but one would be attempted.
Before Kurt and his armed confidants got to the right floor, his partners were already standing at the top of the stairs outside the apartment.
“They shouldn’t have known we were there,” says Kurt. “But as we were climbing the stairs, we saw they had their guns thrown on the ground and their arms raised above their heads.”
Kurt’s eyes well as he takes a moment to describe the improbable fate of one of the three armed confidants he brought with him.
“The man to the right of me,” says Kurt. “I don’t know, maybe he thought it was an ambush when he saw the partners give up so easily, but he tried to fire towards the top of the stairs. I swear I heard the trigger pull but there was no bullet. The man, the one that fired, instead he just disappeared, just faded, completely gone.”
The inexplicable disappearance of the armed man could not be confirmed by any sources other than Mr. Wexler, however Kurt says it affected everyone that saw it.
“It calmed a tense situation,” says Kurt. “My two partners still stood at the top of the steps, looking down now at us three men. They made clear they wanted to surrender, that they meant us no harm, and that they didn't make the other man disappear. We found trust then, I don't know how, but we found it.”
Their surrender however, was conditional.
“They wanted me to join them in the apartment,” says Kurt. “They asked I take their guns and send the two armed confidants that remained back to the embassy. I reluctantly agreed. I didn’t have proof beyond my suspicions they had defected, and with no weapons and no one else in the apartment, it seemed a low enough risk for me to take it. On top of that I had just lost a close buddy of mine to seemingly no cause whatsoever. I needed to know what was in that apartment.”
Kurt’s says his curiosity and the risk he took would lead to the single biggest payoff in his career in spycraft.

The Omnipotent Source

The interview process for Mr. Wexler has been among the most difficult I’ve ever conducted.
He omits names, he leaves absent details, and the information he does share, it is nearly impossible to verify.
This is perhaps most exemplified in Mr. Wexler’s severe reluctance to discuss the apartment his two partners had been visiting during the first six months of 1980, and the scant evidence he is able to provide that it even exists.
What Mr. Wexler will tell me is that inside the apartment they discovered a source that knew everything their informants did, but could relay that information safely.
“The source,” Mr. Wexler says, “a very old man who knew our informants and everything they knew. We would meet every two weeks in that apartment for the next eight years, till he passed and a new man replaced him,” says Kurt.
Asked if he ever confirmed the information with the informants themselves, Kurt says: “That would have been too dangerous at the time, but yes, I did. Years later in the late ‘90s after the USSR fell, I contacted all the informants the old man referenced - I spoke with all of them. They confirmed everything, contextualized it, and even shared more.”
Confirmation of Mr. Wexler’s details have proved impossible. Both off an on the record US intelligence officials tell me that either such a room with such a source doesn’t exist, or that if it does, it is such a closely held secret that only on the ground intelligence in Moscow knows about it.
One official questioned why such an incredible source would only be used to protect Moscow informants, saying: "What's the harm in using such a source for everything, and what's so special about Russian informants that they take priority?"
The only documentation Mr. Wexler was able to provide for verification is a an old Polaroid of an old man, the one he claims was the source in the room. The photograph however is so faded that the man in the photo could be any older man. Mr. Wexler could pass for the man in the photograph, for example.

Fear of a Date

There are obvious security concerns about having a room with an omnipotent source in Moscow go unprotected, but this is not Mr. Wexler’s fear. He trusts the source is allied to US interests, or at a minimum, interested in protecting Russian sources that give information to the US.
Kurt’s fear is much more specific, as he claims that if by January 3rd, 2020, the US State Department does not have adequate resources applied to that room, “armageddon will come for us all.”
When asked for comment, both on and off the record officials tell me the January 3rd, 2020 date has no significance within the intelligence community, however Mr. Wexler is adamant.
“There are two things I know,” says Kurt. “One, I die in 2028 at the ripe old age of 93. Two, the existence of everything won’t matter if we’re not using that room by January 3rd, 2020. Paradoxes kill. I’ve seen it.”
Intrigued, I ask Mr. Wexler if he believes a ‘paradox’ killed his confidant on the stairs in 1980. He responds, “Yes”, and to which I ask: “Well, what caused that ‘paradox’ then?”
Mr. Wexler has not been able to provide an answer.

Spoiler: Latest RS Post - What is the Drama?

Post Copy-and-pasted below, but actually you guys, what is the Drama? I feel like we've eliminated the Jordan situation from speculation, but from the hints he's dropping it seems like more than the standard girlfriend back home drama?
RS Post (Without the March Madness bit):
Lets get to some “Bachelorette” related news since I haven’t posted since Thursday regarding what’s been going on. As you know, last week they were in Park City, Utah. On Friday of last week, I reported that they were headed to Las Vegas for episode 5. Last time they were in Vegas was Ben Higgins’ season five seasons ago. The guys are staying at the Aria Hotel & Casino, same place the girls stayed on Ben’s season. Filming began Sunday with a 1-on-1 date. No public pictures were posted, but I was made aware who was on that 1-on-1 as they were seen in the lobby. Yesterday was a group date at the Aria Convention Center that I tweeted out the basic details of. 9 guys on the date, they were all dressed in tuxedos, Wayne Newton was the special guest, and each guy had to get up there and sing a song to Becca written by themselves sung to the tune of Wayne’s infamous “Danke Schoen.” Reports are there were a couple that were good, a couple that were ok, and one that was flat out bad. I’m aware of the 9 guys that went on the date, but since cameras weren’t allowed, there are no public pictures as of now, so I’m not in any hurry to release which 9 got the date. You’ll get it soon enough. As I say every season, you don’t need to know everything 4 seconds after it happens. You will get your spoilers eventually like you do every season. This season will be no different. A lot of what I release depends on what gets spoiled publicly. Since they left LA, outside of Garrett’s concert date in Park City, nothing has been spoiled, so there’s no rush for me to put it all out there now.
Today is someone’s birthday. A very special someone who has a “date” tonight. That’s right, my nephew Nicholas turns 11 today. Holy crap, he’s 11. That makes no sense. So I’m taking him to the Mavericks/Trailblazers game tonight and, shhhhhhhh, don’t tell his mother but he might be getting cotton candy (don’t worry, she doesn’t read my site). And oh yeah, it’s also Becca’s 28th birthday today too. And what better way to celebrate your 28th birthday than having to go on the dreaded 2-on-1 date. That’s right, today is a 2-on-1 date in Vegas, with rose ceremony #5 being tomorrow. Maybe pictures will get out, maybe not. You never know. The first two dates in Vegas didn’t have any public pictures get out, so, chances are less than likely they’ll do something totally public for the 2-on-1 today.
Also this past Friday before they left for Vegas, I was told where they are headed for episode 6, and that’s Richmond, Virginia. There’s a public concert you can during their stay there and that’s with Morgan Evans. Or as he is probably better known as “Kelsea Ballerini’s husband” (post includes a tweet here)
Not sure where they’re headed for episode 7 yet, but I’m sure I’ll find out before they leave since I have for every location before that. I know some of you have been asking me about international travel and when it starts. My answer is I don’t know. Maybe they will for episode 7 before coming back for hometowns in episode 8. Or maybe they keep it domestic for all episodes up to hometowns. Wouldn’t be unprecedented as they did it for Chris Soules season. People are reading into it too much. Just because they don’t have any international travel before episode 6 doesn’t mean they have no budget, or that her season sucks, or that Becca didn’t want to go anywhere. Some of these speculations are flat out ridiculous. They travel where they travel and it has nothing to do with anything other than where they get the best trade deals. Becca doesn’t dictate where they go. The fact they’re in Richmond for episode 6, I think, is a clear indication that when they were in Virigina for Lauren’s hometown last season (and then for the Arie/Lauren meet up again post-season) is when the idea of Virginia was put into their heads. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they were in Virginia twice last season and then this season it becomes a location spot. They went there, they liked the scenery, so they decided to put a package together for them to come back and Virginia accepted. I highly doubt they’d be going to Virginia this season if they never went there twice for Arie’s season. Just a hunch.
So we’re down to 12 guys in Vegas (11 after today’s 2-on-1), then I’m sure 9 will head to Virginia in keeping with their past elimination track record. Obviously if you follow some of these guys on social media, it’s not that hard to tell who’s home and who isn’t. The question is when they were sent home. And for others, also could be a question of why. As I said, you’ll get all that later on in the spoilers.
One thing that I brought up a couple weeks ago was some early season drama in regards to Becca that happened. Here’s the thing: I know the basics of what happened, but knowing the basics, I have a lot of questions regarding the circumstances since some of it is confusing, and I don’t have the answers to those yet. I could lay the basics out there for you tomorrow, but I guarantee the speculation will become unwarranted and that’ll just muddy the waters. I’d rather have most of the details before explaining to you what happened. Trust me, once I gave you the basics, without knowing anything else, and without knowing the full details, just seems like the reporting would be incomplete. I don’t know. Let me try and get more info and if I can’t, then I’ll decide if/when I want to report the basics that I know. This will all make more sense once you know.

Moving to New Orleans in August. What's the first thing I should do?

So my girlfriend got a promotion and we're moving down there August 1st from Richmond, Virginia. We've never been there, but based on what we've read and heard, we're sure we'll have a blast. The questions is, what do we do first? What's the textbook 'New Orleans' thing to do? A specific restaurant? Concert venue? Bar? Casino? Just walk around until we see something we like? What would you good citizens suggest us newbies indulge in to get a true feel for the place? And I guess conversely, what's something we should never do?

Donald Trump Has Been a Racist All His Life – And He Isn’t Going to Change After Charlottesville

Donald Trump Has Been a Racist All His Life – And He Isn’t Going to Change After Charlottesville
by Mehdi Hasan via The Intercept
URL: http://ift.tt/2waUcvl
“Racism is evil,” declared Donald Trump on Monday, “and those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans.”
Okay, “declared” maybe too strong a word for what we heard from the president. “Stated” is perhaps a better descriptor. “Read out” might be the most accurate of all. Trump made these “additional remarks” with great reluctance and only after two days of intense criticism from both the media and senior Republicans over his original remarks blaming “many sides” for the neo-Nazi violence in Charlottesville, Virginia. The words were not his own: they were scripted by aides and delivered with the assistance of a teleprompter. The president reserved his personal, off-the-cuff ire on Monday for the black CEO of Merck, not for the white fascists of Virginia.
Much of the frenzied media coverage of what CNN dubbed “48 hours of turmoil for the Trump White House” has overlooked one rather crucial point: Trump doesn’t like being forced to denounce racism for the very simple reason that he himself is, and always has been, a racist.
Consider the first time the president’s name appeared on the front page of the New York Times, more than 40 years ago. “Major Landlord Accused of Antiblack Bias in City,” read the headline of the A1 piece on October 16, 1973, which pointed out how Richard Nixon’s Department of Justice had sued the Trump family’s real estate company in federal court over alleged violations of the Fair Housing Act.
“The government contended that Trump Management had refused to rent or negotiate rentals ‘because of race and color,’” the Times revealed. “It also charged that the company had required different rental terms and conditions because of race and that it had misrepresented to blacks that apartments were not available.” (Trump later settled with the government without accepting responsibility.)
Over the next four decades, Trump burnished his reputation as a bigot: he was accused of ordering “all the black [employees] off the floor” of his Atlantic City casinos during his visits; claimed “laziness is a trait in blacks” and “not anything they can control”; requested Jews “in yarmulkes” replace his black accountants; told Bryan Gumbel that “a well-educated black has a tremendous advantage over a well-educated white in terms of the job market”; demanded the death penalty for a group of black and Latino teenagers accused of murdering a jogger in Central Park (and, despite their later exoneration, with the use of DNA evidence, has continued to insist they are guilty); suggested a native American tribe “don’t look like Indians to me”; mocked Chinese and Japanese trade negotiators by doing an impression of them in broken English; described undocumented Mexican immigrants as “rapists”; compared Syrian refugees to “snakes”; defended two supporters who assaulted a homeless Latino man as “very passionate” people “who love this country”; pledged to ban a quarter of humanity from entering the United States; proposed a database to track American Muslims that he himself refused to distinguish from the Nazi registration of German Jews; implied Jewish donors “want to control” politicians and are all sly negotiators; heaped praise on the “amazing reputation” of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who has blamed America’s problems on a “Jewish mafia”; referred to a black supporter at a campaign rally as “my African-American”; suggested the grieving Muslim mother of a slain U.S. Army Officer “maybe… wasn’t allowed” to speak in public about her son; accused an American-born Hispanic judge of being “a Mexican”; retweeted anti-Semitic and anti-black memes, white supremacists and even a quote from Benito Mussolini; kept a book of Hitler’s collected speeches next to his bed; declined to condemn both David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan; and spent five years leading a “Birther” movement that was bent on smearing and delegitimizing the first black president of the United States, who Trump also accused of being the founder of ISIS.
Oh and remember: we knew all of this _before_he was elected president of the United States of America. He was elected _in spite_of all this (yet another reminder that “not all Trump supporters are racist, but all of them decided that racism isn’t a deal-breaker”).

Some had hoped that Trump would be moderated by office; there was much talk of a presidential pivot. It was all utter nonsense and wishful thinking from lazy commentators who have found it difficult to cover, and call out, a president who regularly traffics in racially-charged rhetoric while surrounding himself with an array of race-baiting advisers. Since entering the Oval Office, Trump has appointed Steve Bannon — former executive chairman of Breitbart News, which has stories tagged ‘Black Crime’ — as his White House chief strategist, and Jeff Sessions — who was once accused of calling a black official in Alabama a “nigger” — as his Attorney General; he has claimed, without a shred of evidence, that millions of immigrants “voted illegally” for Hillary Clinton; and, perhaps most shocking of all, he has publicly and repeatedly belittled a female U.S. Senator, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, who has claimed Native American heritage, as “Pocahontas.”
This is racism 101 from a sitting US president. And it is the stark and undeniable truth, and key context, that is missing from much of the coverage of the political fallout from Charlottesville. Journalists, opinion formers, members of Congress and members of the public continue to treat Trump as they would any other previous president — they expect their head of government to come out and condemn racism with passion, vigor, speed and sincerity. But what do you do if the president is himself a long-standing purveyor of racism and xenophobia? What then? Do you still demand he condemn and castigate what is essentially his base? Do you continue to feign shock and outrage over his _lack_of shock and outrage?
Yes, the United States has had plenty of presidents in recent decades who have dog-whistled to racists and bigots and even incited hate against minorities — think Nixon’s Southern Strategy, Reagan and his “welfare queens,” George H.W. Bush and the Willie Horton ad and the Clintons and their “superpredators” — but there has never been a modern president so personally steeped in racist prejudices, so unashamed to make bigoted remarks in public and with such a long and well-documented record of racial discrimination.
So can we stop playing this game where journalists demand Trump condemns people he agrees with and Trump then pretends to condemn them in the mildest of terms? I hate to say this but it is worth paying attention to the leader of the Virginia KKK, who told a reporter in August 2016: “The reason a lot of Klan members like Donald Trump is because a lot of what he believes, we believe in.”
So can we stop pretending that Trump isn’t Trump? That the presidency has changed him, or will change him? It hasn’t and it won’t. There will be no reset; no reboot; no pivot. This president may now be going through the motions of (belatedly) denouncing racism, with his scripted statements and vacuous tweets. But here’s the thing: why would you expect a lifelong racist to want to condemn or crack down on other racists? Why assume a person whose entire life and career has been defined by racially-motivated prejudice and racial discrimination, by hostility towards immigrants, foreigners and minorities, would suddenly be concerned by the rise of prejudice and discrimination on his watch? It is pure fantasy for politicians and pundits to suppose that Trump will ever think or behave as anything other than the bigot he has always been — and, in more recent years, as an apologist for other bigots too.
We would do well to heed the words of those who have spent decades studying this bizarre president. “Donald is a 70-year old man,” Trump biographer David Cay Johnston reminded me in the run-up to his inauguration in January. “I’m 67. I’m not going to change and neither is Donald.”
